The CPD will examine the role of Building Surveyors in the identification and remedying of building defects. We will look at the role of the building surveyors in the context of team due diligence inspections and how our experience we can add value to the team.
We will look briefly at BRE Digest 268 which deals will defects in low rise buildings and look at the contributing factors and common failures identified in the digest.
Variables involved in the building process will be examined to illustrate their impact on building performance.The three main causes of building defects will be looked at together with other common factors that can lead to the occurrence of defects.
Noels presentation will set out to give an entry level understanding of issues involved and will present some recent cases and examples of the more common occurring building defects.
Speaker bio:
Noel Larkin MSCSI MRICS
Noel has been working as a Chartered Building Surveyor for in excess of 25 years.
He is principle of Noel Larkin & Associates which he established in 1997.
Noel is immediate past chairman of the Building Surveying Professional Group of SCSI and has acted in the past as external examiner to the Dundalk Institute of technology (DKIT). He retains strong links to DKIT and is a regular guest speaker there.
Noel specialises in pre-acquisition Due Diligence surveys and is involved in the identification and specification of repairs of many common building defects.
Noel is a regular contributor to the Irish Times Property Clinic and the Surveyors Journal.
