Speaker Bio – Barra McCabe:
Barra is a practising Barrister at Law in Dublin, the Eastern Circuit and before the Superior Courts providing professional litigation and advocacy services to a range of private and commercial clients. He has a general civil practice with special focus on areas including commercial landlord and tenant law, construction law / arbitration / adjudication / mediation, planning law, company law, employment law and data protection law. Other areas of legal expertise include lease review and drafting, legal drafting, commercial negotiation, legal research, scrutinising legislation, provision of legal opinions and contract read and review. Barra also undertakes some part time lecturing and tutoring for a number of different academic and professional institutions. He was appointed as a Board Member of the Valuation Tribunal in 2018 for a five year term and he is Secretary of the Construction Bar Association. He is also Chartered Surveyor and Registered Valuer having worked for 20 years in the commercial and residential property sectors. Barra was recently appointed to the ‘Professional Conduct Committee and Appeals Board’ of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland and also writes commercial law updates for the ‘Commercial Law Practitioner’. Pro bono work includes provision of voluntary advisor services for Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC), provision of legal advice to the Public Interest Law Alliance (PILA) and member of the SCSi Working Group on Sustainability.
