  • The Society of Chartered Surveyors is delighted to provide members with the opportunity to expand their learning and up-skill in the area of Valuation Principles and Techniques by undertaking our stand alone, 10 ECTS credit CPD Module, accredited by TU Dublin. On successful completion of the module, participants will earn an NFQ Level 8 CPD Certificate from TU Dublin.

    This certificate creates an opportunity for the learner to grasp fundamental property valuation principles and techniques. The syllabus is broad in scope, providing the learner with an understanding of the valuation of various legal property interests using basic valuation methodologies. The learner is also introduced to the concept of property as an investment medium.

    When combined with your existing third level qualifications, completion of this CPD Certificate module may fulfill the academic requirements of obtaining a State licence to practice as a Property Services Provider (PSP).


    Module learning outcomes

    On successful completion of this module the participant will:

    • Be familiar with valuation terminology;
    • Understand the fundamentals of valuation theory as a foundation for subsequent applied valuation programme study;
    • Have developed an appreciation and knowledge of local and national property market values for residential and commercial property;
    • Have developed an ability to analyse property market transaction evidence and utilise this evidence in the application of various valuation techniques;
    • Be able to understand the time value of money and comprehend the calculation and application of valuation formulae;
    • Be able to understand and utilise developer equations;
    • Appreciate the function of property in the wider investment spectrum.

    Programme Overview:

    • This module will be delivered in a blended model, combining online and in-person lectures and workshops.
    • Online components will be delivered via Zoom with in person components will take place in SCSI HQ, Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
    • Participants will be registered with TU Dublin gaining access to library supports for the duration of the module.
    • This module will require participants to undertake self-directed study hours and complete a final continuous assessment project due for submission in September.
    • Participants are required to achieve a minimum of 40% to pass the module.
    • The programme will be assessed in line with TU Dublin Regulation and Standards.

    Module Dates

    Classes will be held on 5 consecutive weeks commencing Tuesday, 31st May running until 28th June.

    Lectures and workshops will take place etween 09.30 -13.00

     

    Module Lecturer

    This module will be delivered by Emer Byrne, MSc. MSCSI, MRICS, a Chartered Valuation Surveyor with a Masters qualification in Sustainable Development. Emer has commercial expertise in professional services, development appraisals, statutory issues including: rent reviews / lease renewals and CPOs / major infrastructure projects; Property development and agency. Furthermore, Emer brings over 16 years’ experience with the design and delivery of core modules on postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the area of valuation appraisals and collaborative valuation projects.
