Ireland requires 35,000 new units per year to meet demand yet delivered approximately 21,000 new units to the market in 2019. With fewer completions in 2020 due to the impact of COVID 19 restrictions on construction, the decisions taken now must be realistic, achievable and sustainable. In this regard, the SCSI Report will assist all stakeholders engaged with meeting Ireland’s housing needs.

    Speakers:

    Paul Mitchell

Paul has a wide range of experience in the Public and Private sector including a number of specialisms most notably in Financial Modelling of development projects. Paul plays an active role in the Society of Chartered Surveyors and is the Chair of the Real Cost of Apartment Delivery working group who produced the 2017 report and the current 2020 report.

Claire Solon is Managing Director of Greystar Ireland, where she oversees Quayside Quarter at Dublin Landings development on North Wall Quay, and an ambitious development pipeline to grow a vertically integrated residential platform within Ireland through development and investment.

Claire previously held the role as Head of Property in Aviva, formerly Friends First. Some of her previous projects include Blackrock Shopping Centre, Enterprise House offices and Royal Hibernian Way growing the fund from €200m to over €500m. Prior to that she worked at ESB where she was Head of Estates Management with responsibility for the ESB property portfolio and the ESB Headquarter office development on Fitzwilliam St.

She is also a non-executive Board member of Home Building Finance Ireland (HBFI).

    Micheál Mahon

Micheál, is a chartered quantity surveyor by profession and has been an active member of the SCSI for 22 years.

He was Chair of the South East Region from 2011 to 2013 before becoming Chair of the QS Group from 2015 to 2017. In the latter role he co-produced the first SCSI Report on ‘The Real Cost of New Housing Delivery’. Four years later in July 2020 as incoming President he presented the findings of the updated version of that well received report.

Micheál believes that the Society, as the independent voice of the property and construction sector, is ideally placed to make a real contribution to national policy formulation and implementation in general, and in particular to helping address the housing crisis, which is something he is passionate about.

In addition to being President of the Society, he is also the current Chair of the Construction Industry Council.
