  • Taller buildings create wind environments around them due to the interaction with the airflow. Aerodynamic analysis can be used to understand these interactions and allow a design to influence the wind environment. This CPD will discuss the aerodynamics of buildings, how we predict the ground level wind environment, the tools we use (Wind Tunnels and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and how best to navigate the planning process to minimise risk.

    Speaker bio:

Chris joined GIA in 2021 as a Principal consultant for GIA Wind Analysis services, responsible for market share and service line growth.

Following achieving an MEng in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Manchester, Chris moved into higher education to further develop his knowledge in aerodynamics, and achieved a PhD.

Chris was previously Technical Business Development Manager and Head of Aerodynamics & CFD at Wirth Research, where he specialised in delivering projects across the built environment. Working in the sector since 2012, Chris lead the commercial relationships for the majority of projects, ensuring to deliver beyond expectations.

He has extensive knowledge of the built environment, aerodynamics, innovation and problem solving, with previous experience across motor sport, aerospace, retail and defence.
