APC Training – Becoming an APC Counsellor (Jun. 2026)

As part of our APC Training calendar, the SCSI Director of Education & CPD, James Lonergan and Deputy Director of Education, Ruth Comerford Morris are providing APC Counsellor Training on Thursday, 25th of June for Chartered Members who are looking to up-skill and support candidates coming through the APC process.

This session is open to Chartered members across all pathways – please note that APC Counsellors must be SCSI Chartered Professional Members & have completed counsellor training.

During Part One of this session, attendees will be provided with an overview of the APC to support your guidance to new APC applicants on APC routes and pathways. An in-depth review of the roles and responsibilities of APC Supervisors and Counsellors will also be delved into around the topics of:

• Mandatory competencies & pathway competency requirements
• Record keeping throughout the structured training period
• Competency Sign-Off
• Referred Candidates
• Resources, Supports & Guidance

Part Two of this interactive workshop will focus on key skills for effective communication, an essential skill in today’s workplace and for counsellors/ supervisors who are supporting candidates on their path to Chartership. These skills include:

• Giving and receiving feedback
• Navigating difficult conversations
• Performing at your best in a changing environment

During the workshop we will look at how counsellors, supervisors and managers can create the right environment for success, support their people, and lead effectively in a changing world.

Part 2 of the workshop will be supported by Treasa Fitzgibbon, The Career Activist, who will bring practical insights and an engaging approach to the session.
