Transfering From RICS

RICS Transfer : Associate Trainees and Trainees

RICS and the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland have an agreement whereby Trainees undertaking the Assessment of Professional Competence can transfer membership between RICS and the Society while continuing to record APC experience, uninterrupted.

You are obliged to register as a Trainee with the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland if you are working in the Republic of Ireland. Likewise, you are obliged to register as a Trainee with the RICS if you are working outside the Republic of Ireland. If you do not register with the body in the country where you practice, your recorded experience will be inadmissible for Final Assessment.

If you are an RICS-enrolled Trainee and are intending to work in the Republic of Ireland you will need to resign RICS membership and apply to enrol with the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland. To transfer your RICS trainee membership please contact:

The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in the UK will continue to mutually recognise accredited surveying qualifications and Chartered Status following the UK/EU Implementation Period ceasing at the end of 2020.

Chartered Surveyors operating in Ireland are required to hold dual Membership with the SCSI and RICS. Surveyors in Ireland who leave the jurisdiction can continue to transfer their primary Membership to the RICS without the need to undertake any additional measures. Similarly, RICS Members who move to Ireland from the UK can continue to transfer their primary Membership to SCSI but must maintain dual Membership with RICS. This will mean that, regardless of the official trade agreement between the UK and the EU, Irish and UK surveyors can continue to work much in the same manner as currently.  Further information on global recognition of the Charter is available via the RICS and other Brexit related considerations are available at https://www.rics.org/eu/products/data-products/insights/the-effect-of-brexit-on-uk-construction/.
