Why you need to register
A person must be registered to use the title “Building Surveyor” or “Quantity Surveyor”
If you are concerned that a person may be using the title “Building Surveyor” or “Quantity Surveyor” check if they can be found on our Check the Register page.
If they cannot be found, please raise your concern with the Registrar at registration@scsi.ie or The Registration Body, 38 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
Prosecution of Offences under the Building Control Act, 2007
Section 46 (1) of the Building Control Act 2007 (“2007 Act”) provides that “[a] person who not being registered … uses the title “building surveyor”, either alone or in combination with any other words or letters, or name, title or description, implying that the person is so registered, shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding €5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or both.”
Section 32(1) of the Building Control Act 2007 (“2007 Act”) provides that “[a] person who not being registered … uses the title “quantity surveyor”, either alone or in combination with any other words or letters, or name, title or description, implying that the person is so registered, shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding €5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or both.”
Section 67 (1) of the 2007 Act provides that if there is a breach of Section 46 (1) or 32(1), among other sections, summary proceedings may be brought and prosecuted by the registration body.
