Since the introduction of the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 and the creation of the Residential Tenancy Board, Agents all over Ireland who deal with Residential Lettings and Management have had to keep up with ongoing changes in legislation and amendments to these over 20 years. Yet again there is going to be one of the most significant changes to the original Act that is getting introduced on 1^st March 2026 which will affect our industry and the advice we give landlords on a day-to-day basis. Not only that with the lack of supply of rental properties we are seeing more and more tenants looking to assign part of the tenancies to friends or work colleagues if they are leaving and it is crucial that agents managing properties and the tenancies know how to deal with the tenancy assignment correctly so it does not taint or negatively affect the existing tenancy in place and most importantly protect your landlords interest in the property. More than ever the lease agreement now becomes increasingly important, and it creates the foundation of any tenancy. Understanding how a fixed term tenancy runs in parallel with a Part 4 Tenancy is fundamental. Is your lease agreement fit for purpose and when was the last time you updated it ? Finally, many tenancies come to an end so when a tenant(s) are leaving a property an agent must have a robust and professional process and procedure (in many cases connected to the lease) that covers all angles so that the property is given back in its best condition and many other obligations are followed by the tenant when they are moving out. You do not want to return the deposit pre-maturely and expose your landlord to any costs. It is not as straight forward as you think?

This one– day, in- person workshop is designed to upskill and provide training to SCSI members working in the Residential Property Lettings & Management Sector in Ireland.

About Our Speaker:

Marcus O’Connor, FSCSI, FRICS, ACIArb, BER Assessor (Managing Director) – MFO The Property Professionals

Marcus has over 25 years’ experience in the property industry. He worked in 2 of the big 5 auctioneers for many years before setting up his own general property services provider agency, MFO The Property Professionals in 2008. Its core competencies are Residential & Commercial Valuations, Lettings, Management & Sales. Marcus is also heavily involved with RTB dispute resolution. Marcus is a Fellow of the SCSI & RICS. Marcus is hugely involved with the SCSI and has been for 20 years giving CPDs and was President of the YSCSI for 2 years. Currently Marcus is on the SCSI National Council, Chairperson of the Practice & Policy Committee, Chairperson of the Residential Agency Group, the residential representative on the Sustainability Committee and contributes to the Irish Times Property Clinic on a regular occasion. Finally, Marcus was Chairperson of the National Auctioneering and Property Services Apprenticeship Committee for 5 years and these Apprenticeship courses were formally launched on 11th April 2019 by Joe McHugh TD, Minister for Education and Skills and are now available to attend all over the country.
