The Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government have published data concerning housing and apartment completions for the first 10 months of 2014.

8796 units were completed in the first 10 months of 2014 with approximately 25% of these occurring in the Dublin area. The SCSI has identified a need for approximately 7000 units in Dublin over the next 5 years and these figure represent a serious shortfall in the number of required units which is likely to further put pressure on house prices in Dublin over the coming years.
It is the belief of the SCSI that the government should expedite the implementation of the measures outlined in Construction 2020 in order to increase housing supply to more sustainable levels and stem the increase in house prices in Dublin and Ireland’s urban centres.
