Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Apprenticeship Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join Crannog Roofing’s Commercial Team and gain practical, structured experience across the commercial management of live construction projects.
Responsibilities will develop throughout the apprenticeship and will include:
- Assisting with measurement and quantification of construction works.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
- Supporting estimating, costing and preparation of commercial information.
- Assisting with procurement and tendering, including supplier and subcontractor enquiries.
- Obtaining and comparing quotations.
- Supporting project cost management, financial control and reporting.
- Assisting with valuations, payment applications and payment certification.
- Recording and managing variations and additional works.
- Supporting contract administration and commercial project records.
- Assisting with cost planning and value engineering.
- Attending site visits and project meetings where appropriate.
- Liaising with site teams, suppliers, subcontractors, main contractors and other project stakeholders.
The apprentice will gain increasing responsibility as their knowledge, skills and experience develop.
Apprenticeship Requirements
No previous Quantity Surveying experience is required.

Applicants should:
- Meet the entry requirements for the NFQ Level 8 Quantity Surveying Practitioner Apprenticeship.
- Have a good level of numeracy and attention to detail.
- Be organised, reliable and capable of maintaining accurate records.
- Have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Be comfortable using computers and willing to develop their Microsoft Excel and construction software skills.
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Be willing to combine workplace learning with the academic requirements of the apprenticeship.
- Have an interest in construction, commercial management and project delivery.
Applications may also be considered through alternative entry routes, including Recognition of Prior Learning where applicable.
A full driving licence would be an advantage due to site visits but is not essential at the outset.
