Department Role

As a Planning Authority, Dublin City Council is responsible for the orderly development of the city and through its Planning & Property Development Department it provides the policies, plans and procedures to achieve a sustainable living City, in which people can live, work and form communities.

The City Valuer’s Office is part of the Planning & Property Development Department. It provides a comprehensive valuation and property advice service to all City Council Departments. Key areas covered include residential valuations, development appraisal and development agreements, acquisitions and disposals, leasing and lettings, rent reviews, compulsory purchase and many functions in the housing area.

Dublin City Council’s City Valuer’s Office also provides a valuation service to Fingal County Council, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and South Dublin County Council. There are ever increasing demands on the Council’s valuation and analytical skills in the present economic climate where value for money, economic assessment of projects and active asset management are paramount.

The Job

The role of the Graduate Valuer (Temporary), in the Office of the City Valuer, centres around assisting in the preparation of a large volume of reports, on properties and property related matters in the Dublin area. A wide variety of property types will be encountered in both statutory and/or non-statutory situations including residential, commercial, cultural, community, sporting, institutional, environmental, utility or engineering projects.

The Graduate Valuer (Temporary) will report to an Assistant Valuer or such Officer as may be determined from time to time. The Graduate Valuer (Temporary) will be involved in carrying out inspections, other field work/research, negotiations and attendance at meetings.

The duties allocated will reflect the APC (Assessment of Professional Competence) Programme approach of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI)/Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The Graduate Valuer (Temporary) will also have the opportunity to gain a practical insight into the workings of a large local authority.
