EXPLANATORY MEMO – STATUTORY REGISTRATION OF BUILDING SURVEYORS & QUANTITY SURVEYORS

The professional titles - Building Surveyor and Quantity Surveyor - are protected under the Building Control Act 2007. Only those persons who are registered can use the title in connection with their professional work or role. The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) is the Registration Body for the purposes of the Act and to whom applications for registration can be submitted. It is not a prerequisite to being a member of SCSI to be registered. Successful registrants can opt to also become Associate Members. The Act prohibits the use of the titles, either alone or in combination with any other words or letters, or name, title or description, implying that the person is so registered (examples include graduate, trainee, chartered etc.). If you are advertising a Building Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor role and intend the title to be (all or part of) the employee’s work title, you must include a provision that the candidate is either registered or is eligible to be registered under the provisions of the Act. Please be aware that any use of the titles is not permitted until registration has been successfully achieved. If you need further assistance or information regarding the use of titles of “Building Surveyor” or “Quantity Surveyor”, please contact registration@scsi.ie or 01-6445502
