The purpose of the Standing Committee on Regulation & Standards is to oversee the delivery of the Society’s regulatory policy objectives.
Shane McCarthy
Shane McCarthy is a highly successful Consultant, Chair and Board member across many sectors both private and public. Shane merged his successful legal practice with a legal firm in Cork City in 2016 to focus on his Consultancy career. Key areas of expertise Judicial Reviews, Fitness to Practice Corporate Governance and Committee leadership. Shane is strategic and results focused, with excellent communication and influencing.
Graham Knowles
Graham Knowles is an experienced health service executive with a clinical background having held various demanding and high-profile positions in the NHS and more recently in the Irish health system. Has held key roles in the design and development of both delivery and commissioning organisations and worked with/on the Boards of NHS Trusts, Health Authorities, not for profit organisations and Irish health providers.
Richard Hammond S.C.
Richard is a Senior Counsel (being in the first coterie of solicitors ever to be elevated to that status by the Government of Ireland on 1st September,2020) who practises as a solicitor with his spouse Joyce A. Good Hammond at Hammond Good, Solicitors & Notaries Public, Mallow, County Cork where he is a partner. He is a self-described “succession law enthusiast” who also specialises in professional regulation. Much of his practise involves succession law consultancy for other law firms. He is a former President of the Southern Law Association and is a member of the Council of the Law Society of Ireland. He is or has been involved in professional regulation for a number of organisations including the Law Society of Ireland, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland, the Society of Actuaries in Ireland, the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland, the Irish Auditing & Accounting Supervisory Authority, and the Occupational Therapists Registration Board. Richard teaches extensively at the Law School of the Law Society of Ireland on the Professional Practice Courses. He is widely published and contributes regularly to CPD Conferences for Law Society Professional Training and for local Bar Associations. Richard was previously President of the Union of Students in Ireland.

Mr Dermott Jewell, Consumers’ Association of Ireland (CAI) since 1994.Dermott is a lawyer and former CEO, now Policy & Council Advisor to the Consumers’ Association of Ireland. Representations include – Chairperson/Director of the European Consumer Centre (ECC) Ireland; Chairperson of the Professional Conduct Committee at the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI); Member – Legal Services Regulatory Authority (LSRA); Member of the Financial Services & Pensions Ombudsman Council (FSPOC), Bord Bia Quality Assurance Board. He has been appointed to the newly established Consumer Policy Advisory Group (CPAG) of the European Commission and is President of ANEC – the European Consumer Voice in Standardisation.

Kevin Sheridan is a Chartered Surveyor, Chartered Construction Manager and Chartered Building Engineer and a former SCSI Council member and B.S Chair . He is a former President & Secretary General of AEEBC,( a European Building Surveyors & Construction Experts Association) and is Past President of IBCI. He is a Member of the Architects Registration Admissions Board and a former SCSI Building Surveyors Admissions Board member. He is a CIRI Board member former ICE (RoI) Chair and is Chair of NSAI TC006 Construction Standards Board. He has extensive experience in the public and private sectors in Training and Development in construction and engineering and actively participated in the development of the Code of Practice and Ancillary Certification system for B.C.A.R.
Martin Waldron
Martin is a Barrister and Chartered Quantity Surveyor with over 25 years’ experience in construction and property related matters. He has acted as arbitrator, mediator, adjudicator and conciliator as well as counsel in construction, landlord and tenant and property related disputes. He is the Past-Chairman of the CIArb (Irish Branch), Chair of the SCSI’s ADR committee and a committee member of the Construction Bar Association.
Helen Fletcher
Helen Fletcher is a long-standing member of the SCSI. She has a broad range of work experience in all sectors of the property industry, experience serving on SCSI Committees as well as being an APC Assessor and Counsellor. She is a Chartered Surveyor, a Fellow of the SCSI, a member of the RICS, a Registered Valuer and is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Thomas Freeman
Thomas Freeman, Dip Geo Surv BSc (Hons) MA TP MBA is a practicing barrister, a chartered surveyor and town planner with experience in both the public and private sectors. He is co-author of Waste Management Legislation: Consolidated and Annotated.
