Join us on the 21st March 2024 for Global Surveyors Day! We will be having an online CPD on ‘A peculiar survey… for our peculiar purpose’: founding the Ordnance Survey of Ireland.

This CPD will explore the months immediately prior to the foundation of the Ordnance Survey of Ireland in Spring 1824. It aims to uncover the need for this survey, spotlight individuals who shaped its inception, and shed light on the often passionate parliamentary debates regarding its methods. These events, in turn, would leave a lasting imprint on the project’s enduring legacy.

Speaker

Dr Finnian O’Cionnaith is a trained land surveyor with a strong interest in the early history of the profession. He completed his PhD in History at Maynooth University in 2011 and has written several books on the history of land measurement in early-modern Ireland.
